July 29, 2010
Contact: Will Johnson
Phone: 920-209-2357
Email: press@mccormickforcongress.com

APPLETON, Wisconsin – Eighth District Republican Congressional candidate Terri McCormick has already made a personal pledge to voters that she will never vote for tax-increasing legislation and will introduce legislation to lower taxes and curb the deficit.

In a report released earlier this week by the Congressional Budget Office, the legislative agency responsible for providing economic data to Congress, the debt is now higher in comparison with the total output of the economy than any period in American history with the exception of World War II.

The report maintains that “a growing level of federal debt would also increase the probability of a sudden fiscal crisis” and “[t]o restore investors’ confidence, policymakers would probably need to enact spending cuts or tax increases more drastic and painful than those that would have been necessary had the adjustments come sooner.”

Responding to the report, Congressional candidate Terri McCormick says, “There is no probably about it; the politicians in Washington are constitutionally obligated to cut spending. Unfortunately, many of them – including my opponent Steve Kagen – do not seem to take their Oath of Office seriously. That’s why Congressman Kagen voted for Cap and Tax and the Democratic Congressional health care tax-increase plan that was signed by President Obama earlier this year.”

Terri McCormick has offered several policy solutions that will result in meaningful tax reform and that will cut spending and waste, including auditing the Federal Reserve and other federal agencies.

“Tax increases in the midst of an economic crisis are not the solution that northeast Wisconsin voters are looking for. Our district desperately needs job creation and economic innovation, which will not occur through empowering government to be all things to all people. That’s why I will vote to eliminate wasteful spending, rein in the debt, and be a responsible steward of taxpayers’ hard earned money,” concluded McCormick.

July 14, 2010 – Representation focused on the needs of voters — not themselves, not lobbyists, not special interests, not a political party

APPLETON, Wisconsin — Change the Congress in 2010, a Federal PAC, has endorsed Terri McCormick in the Republican primary for the 8th Congressional District.

“Our mission at Change the Congress in 2010 is to change the Congress; our house has become riddled with individuals that are serving themselves rather than us, or even their country,” explained Catherine Welborn, executive director for Change the Congress in 2010.

“Terri McCormick has a history of achievements in leadership, public policy innovation, and public service. She also has an actual track record of delivering on her promises. Terri believes that ‘credibility cannot be borrowed nor can it be bought.’ Rather, it is earned with the trust built upon the foundations of integrity and honesty. She has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals living in the state of Wisconsin,” continued Welborn.

Change the Congress in 2010 wants: “An honest representative. A trustworthy person. A person with real experience in life. A person who lives and works and volunteers in their community – their community in Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District. A person who cares about people. A person who has paid taxes. A person who has balanced a budget. A person who has created jobs – real jobs. A person who will put their God and their country above themselves. A person who will not sell out to the lobbyists. Terri McCormick is that person,” stated Welborn.

The principles and values that McCormick represents resonate with those of Change the Congress in 2010. In regards to health care, Terri McCormick opposes the public option or any other Washington power grab to take over the health care system. She believes that government-manipulated monopolies of insurance, health care and other medical services must be replaced by market driven providers who compete on an equal playing field. Consumers and health care providers can only succeed when our system allows the patient/doctor choices to flourish.

McCormick understands the importance of creating new private sector jobs. She understands that it is government waste, fraud, and mismanagement that have produced the severe threats facing our country: financial insolvency, energy dependency, and foreign entanglements. The country cannot continue to borrow 55 cents of every dollar spent by the federal government. “These are principles that work and have stood the test of time – not only that, these are principles that most Americans support! Since these principles are also those embraced by Change the Congress in 2010, we are proud to endorse Terri McCormick for the United States Congress,” concluded Welborn.

“Thank you Change the Congress in 2010 for your commitment to bringing change to Washington and for your faith in me and in our country,” stated Terri McCormick.

Join Change the Congress in 2010 and support Terri McCormick.

July 13, 2010 – Steve Kagen Switches Vote on Transparency for the Federal Reserve

APPLETON, Wisconsin — Congressman Steve Kagen was previously on the record in support of HR 1207, a bill to give the Government Accountability Office (GAO) the authority to audit the Federal Reserve to obtain precise details about Fed activities. While there is a system of checks and balances for most branches of the government, the Fed remains untouched and unexamined.

But in a vote on June 30, Kagen shifted and voted with 228 other Democrats to oppose an audit of the Federal Reserve (source: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2010/roll412.xml). The bill, authored by Congressman Ron Paul of Texas, received bipartisan support earlier in the year, with 320 members of Congress co-sponsoring it — including Steve Kagen.

Twenty-three Democrats crossed over to vote with the Republicans to audit the Fed, which was included in a bill to fix previously passed and unpopular derivatives measures. Despite overwhelming support from the public, Kagen switched to oppose audit of the Federal Reserve.

Republican candidate for Congress Terri McCormick criticized Kagen’s vote switch: “I want to go to Congress to audit the Federal Reserve and to audit other agencies that are not being good stewards of hard-earned taxpayer dollars,” said McCormick.

“Why did Congressman Kagen support the Audit the Fed bill and then vote against auditing the Fed? Was it simply to put his party ahead of northeast Wisconsin voters?” asked McCormick.

“If elected to Congress, I will work to make our government fully accountable. I have a record of achievement and reform to back up my promises,” she concluded.

July 7, 2010 – Terri McCormick is the first candidate to submit signatures in WI-8 Congressional Race

APPLETON, Wisconsin – Terri McCormick, Candidate for US House of Representatives in Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District has been placed on the ballot.

Having received this honor Tuesday afternoon Terri McCormick is the first candidate in Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District race to be placed on the ballot.

“It is time for the people to decide who best represents them and who will provide the leadership necessary to address the economic crisis, national debt and security issues that face the United States,” stated McCormick.

Voters from all over the Eighth Congressional District provided signatures showing their support for Terri McCormick. One thousand signatures are needed in order to get on the ballot, a requirement that the McCormick Campaign easily met and surpassed.

While submitting the nomination forms, Dave Bowers, Grassroots Coordinator for the Terri McCormick Campaign for Congress reflected on the importance of the nomination process. “The outpouring of support found while collecting signatures speaks volumes for the confidence voters have placed in Terri McCormick.”

Former State Representative Terri McCormick is a teacher, small business owner, published author and constitutional conservative.

Upholding the US Constitution and the Rule of Law

APPLETON, Wisconsin – The PeopleV.US has endorsed Terri McCormick in the Republican primary for the 8th Congressional District.
The principles and values that McCormick represents have attracted the attention and support of the PeopleV.US – a national constitutional group comprised of citizen leaders who are determined to hold lawmakers accountable to their words and actions.

“We are proud to have found a candidate who believes that the Constitution of the United States is not a living document, but one that is carved in stone,” said Tracie Pistocco, media relations director of PeopleV.US. Pistocco goes on to say “As the first candidate our organization has endorsed we are committed to raising $100,000 by the end of this reporting period, we are looking forward to the day Terri McCormick takes our Congress back to Constitutional principles.”

McCormick has been a strong advocate for upholding the U.S. Constitution and ensuring that the voice of the people is never forgotten or trampled over. She is honored to have the support of a national grassroots organization that protects “We the People” against those that would debase and compromise the United States Constitution.

“When I take an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, I understand that it is a sacred oath of trust with the people that I hope to represent,” said Terri McCormick. “The Constitution is not ‘just a piece of paper,’ it stands for the single most important document that we as Americans hold to ensure our rights and our liberties as a free nation.”

Grassroots organizations, such as the PeopleV.US and the many active Patriot and Tea Party groups, are adamant about putting people first, rather than the ‘business as usual’ party machines. Committed to representing her neighbors in Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District, Terri McCormick is focused on creating a better future for America; a future in which the Constitution of the United States is the authority and the destructive goals of career politicians are futile.

Terri McCormick went on to say, “Campaigns and elections must be about the people we serve – not about the ‘tricks of the trade’ of corrupt politicians that enter office owing special interests their seats of power, and then spend our country into bankruptcy.”

“Thank you PeopleV.US for your faith in me and in our country, I will not let the people down!”

Terri McCormick, M.A.
Author, Educator, Conservative Leader
Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives WI-8

McCormick is a Force for Real, Responsible and Accountable Change

May 25, 2010

Appleton, Wisconsin – Terri McCormick continues to demonstrate her strength in Wisconsin’s Eighth District. Devoted to bringing responsibility and reform to Washington, McCormick announced today that she is in the bullpen of “The Freshmen 50″ – an independent Political Action Committee focused on electing 50 new fiscally and ethically responsible citizens to Congress in 2010.

Brian Miller, an Air Force veteran and candidate for Congress in Arizona’s 8th District, founded The Freshmen 50 in early 2009. The Freshmen 50 has identified candidates from across the country who are focused on common sense business practices including:

Applying the Law Equally

Limiting Terms in Office

Enforcing Congressional Ethics – including mandatory tax and expense audits and unleashing an ethics committee

Reading Bills Publicly

Reforming the Federal Tax Code

Balancing the Budget

Congressional candidate Terri McCormick understands the importance of accountability and has devoted herself to being the voice of her constituents. “I am humbled by the opportunity of becoming one of The Freshmen 50 and I will work hard with other reform-minded Members of Congress because I will be counting on them to uphold our American values, just as the people of northeast Wisconsin are counting on me,” stated McCormick.

McCormick’s passion is to bring government back to the people and represent her neighbors in the Eighth district. “It’s time for leadership that is more responsive to the people in this country so that we can finally turn our economy and money crisis around,” explained McCormick.

APPLETON, Wis. — Republican 8th Congressional district candidate Terri McCormick, who has already received prominent endorsements from Wisconsin conservative leaders like Bob Dohnal and Terry J. Kohler, is not only Wisconsin’s only Republican female Congressional candidate in 2010 – she’s also the only Wisconsin conservative leader to be compared to the dynamic former Republican Vice-Presidential nominee and Governor Sarah Palin.

McCormick, who was recently called “Wisconsin’s Underdog” by FOX News Judicial Analyst and former Superior Court Judge Andrew Napolitano, was the feature of a Capital Times op-ed which appeared around the time she announced her candidacy for Congress. According to the op-ed,

“Like Palin in her early days, McCormick has been something of a reformer. But McCormick goes a good deal further than the Palin of today. The Wisconsinite’s been willing to criticize GOP compromises; she’s been outspoken in her discomfort with the whole of the political process; and she’s willing to hold herself to account — promising to live by self-imposed term limits if elected. McCormick is not a candidate who can be “managed” or “controlled.”

The op-ed notes that Terri McCormick was passed over by Republican Party leaders in 2006 and concludes that she would offer the most exciting prospect for northeast Wisconsin Republicans:

“So the 8th might experience something rare in American politics: a contest between two genuine mavericks who disagree on a bunch of fundamental issues. A Kagen/McCormick race would be exciting, maybe a bit edgy. And that’s what Wisconsin needs. Contests between careerists depress turnout because voters recognize that the choice is of little consequence. A contest between two engaging mavericks would be great theater, and great politics.”

In response to the op-ed, McCormick said, “The Cap Times is absolutely correct that a race between Steve Kagen and I would offer up stark differences on the issues. With the current state of affairs in our country, we cannot afford to have a Republican nominee focused on politics instead of policy solutions,” she said. “My platform of solutions is selling in northeast Wisconsin—which is why I am ahead in the only survey taken among Republicans in this race.”

Concluded McCormick, “I appreciate the comparison to Sarah Palin. Governor Palin has managed to inspire millions of Americans deeply concerned about the direction our country is headed, and I hope to be that voice for northeast Wisconsin.” Terri McCormick served in the Wisconsin Assembly, representing district 56 including parts of Appleton and Oshkosh, from 2001 to 2007. She is a Truman scholar nominee, published author, teacher, and small business owner.
