Local Business Leaders Endorse Terri McCormick for Congress in Wisconsin’s Eighth District

March 4, 2010

APPLETON, Wis. — Three local business leaders announced their support for Terri McCormick’s bid for Congress against Steve Kagan in Wisconsin’s Eighth district today.  They include Larry Bilotta of the Fox Cities, Paul Rauscher of Green Bay, and Douglas Maki of Appleton.

“I have watched Terri’s career closely and know that she will do what she has always done: solve problems with free enterprise thinking,” said Larry Bilotta, the founder of Life Discoveries, which helps couples reinvigorate their marriages. “Terri is not just another average Jane who believes she can succeed in Washington. This is a person who has proven herself in Madison for three terms,” he continued. “If you want someone fighting in Washington for term limits to keep powerful political careers from taking over our country, you want to support Terri McCormick.”

Supporter Paul Rauscher, President of the manufacturer EMT International, Inc. in Green Bay, endorses Terri because he is “very impressed by Terri’s views on limited, but effective government.” Says Rauscher, “Terri’s belief in the free market is just what this country needs. She realizes that we need to curb spending if the next generation is going to have any chance at a good quality of life.”

Manufacturing executive Doug Maki says, “Terri comes from a very strong background of business and understands the crisis that losing more business and industry would cause. I’ve been in manufacturing for 45 years as an engineer, manager, and executive and have lived in Appleton for over thirty years,” and so Maki “fully supports Terri McCormick due to her very strong passion of continuing prosperous manufacturing in our state and in particular Northeast Wisconsin.”

McCormick served in the Wisconsin Assembly, representing district 56 including parts of Appleton and Oshkosh, from 2001 to 2007.  She was also a Truman scholar nominee and is a small businesswoman and teacher. Representative McCormick has a track record that includes reducing health care costs for businesses, pioneering Wisconsin’s charter school legislation, and upholding her original term limits pledge.

Kagen’s Bait-and-Switch

terri-mccormickFebruary 11, 2010 -  It seems as if Representative Steve Kagen hopes his constituents don’t actually look at his voting record. In his guest commentary on Wednesday, Kagen said that “we must all live within our means” and went on to claim that he has been working to make sure government is living within its means. This is simply another case of a shyster politician saying one thing and doing the complete opposite.

Only a few weeks after President Obama’s inauguration Kagen voted in favor of $742 billion in new spending and a $410 billion omnibus appropriation. Kagen has voted in favor of nearly every single spending bill since then. Kagen has no one to blame but himself as our country’s deficit climbs by trillions of dollars.

This outrageous spending cannot continue. Send me to Washington and I’ll initiate and push legislation that will immediately return all unspent stimulus money back to the taxpayers. I’m a Constitutional Republican, and, unlike Steve Kagen, I have a record of curbing government expansion and spending.

It is unacceptable for Kagen to work tirelessly to increase spending in an effort to curry favor with President Obama and Speaker Pelosi only to send articles home to Wisconsin touting his imaginary fiscal responsibility. Join me and we’ll send Steve Kagen home in November.

Congressional Candidate Terri McCormick Receives Two Endorsements from Grassroots Conservatives

February 4, 2010

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Republican Eighth Congressional district candidate Terri McCormick, a former State Representative who pioneered legislation on health care and education policy in the state legislature, has received the support of two grassroots conservative groups this week.  The Republican Liberty Caucus, a 527 membership organization dedicated to restoring constitutional principles to Wisconsin government and the RightMarch PAC, a Political Action Committee that represents conservative voices in Republican Party primaries, have each endorsed McCormick.

“Terri McCormick is a practical, solution-focused leader who will bring common sense and commitment to limited government to Washington,” said Dave Nalle, National Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC), which has 5,000 members.  The RLC was founded in 1991 to promote individual liberty, limited government, and free enterprise among Republican Party officials; identify and support candidates sympathetic with these ideals; and encourage Caucus membership among Republican Party registrants, officials, and officeholders.

“It’s time to stop sending Congressmen and Senators to Washington in the hopes that they will represent our conservative values, only to see them retreat from what is good and right,” according to William Greene, Chairman of the RightMarch PAC.  Terri McCormick has a track record that includes reducing health care costs for businesses, pioneering Wisconsin’s charter school legislation, and upholding her original term limits pledge.  “In Terri we have a candidate who is principled, driven, and fearless about taking on the Big Government crowd in Washington,” said Wisconsin RLC Vice-Chair Michael S. Murphy of Milwaukee.

“I am so honored to have the support of grassroots conservatives like the members of the Republican Liberty Caucus and the RightMarch PAC donors,” McCormick said.  “This campaign is about challenging the status quo and bringing forth solutions.”

Terri McCormick served in the Wisconsin Assembly; representing district 56 including parts of Appleton and Oshkosh, from 2001 to 2007.  She is a Truman scholar nominee, teacher, and small business owner.

U.S. Senate: “Naughty or Nice” This Season?

terriDecember 23, 2010

APPLETON, Wis., /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The following statement was issued today by Terri McCormick:

In the rush to pass the so-called “healthcare reform bill,” U.S. Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE) stomped his feet and held his breath until he extracted his presents from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. One such gift exempts Nebraska from paying the $45 million increase in Medicaid imbursement costs. Nelson was the 60th Democrat to get his stocking stuffed.

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20091223/DC30345)

Smart parents know not to give in to spoiled children trying these shenanigans. If we gave kids everything they demanded, our family budget would be as busted as last year’s toy under the couch. You know, the one with batteries that are only made in China.

Each of us will soon pay for the Senate’s extravagant spending. In Senator Nelson’s case, his Nebraska voters will be exempted from the substantial cost increases generated by new Medicare patients mandated by this plan. Wisconsin taxpayers will foot the bill not only for the additional costs for Wisconsinites, but for Nebraskans, too.

Senator Reid is like the parents that give their screaming kids everything they ask for. Here is what the Wall Street Journal reported:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Mr. Nelson didn’t get special treatment. “I worked with every Democratic senator” to make changes to the bill,” Mr. Reid said. “Ben Nelson was just like the rest of them.”

The majority leader added, “If you read the bill … you’ll find a number of states are treated differently from other states. That’s what legislation’s all about: compromise.”

So giving a present to every one of the 60 Senate Democrats is the way that healthcare funding decisions are being handled in Washington. It is not the way that we did true healthcare reform in Wisconsin; at least not when I was in charge.

In 2002, I led the Speaker’s Taskforce for Local Government Healthcare Partnerships. We used a business model to address runaway healthcare costs to state and local government. We held a dozen hearings around the State, listening to the people as they identified the reasons for cost spikes. With the help of private-sector talent, we crafted and passed the Competitive Prescription Drug Purchasing Pool, which saved $25 million for non-represented state employees alone, in the first year. We recommended the use of Internet transparency for healthcare cost bidding, as well as a quality control system of standards where communities can view provider ratings online.

This approach put free market mechanisms in place to ensure a level playing field for health care competition. Contrast this pork-free plan with the U.S. Senate Christmas-tree bill, and you can see that government can, and must, do better.

So I have a simple solution for all sensible voters this Holiday season. Think about the permissive parents you see that give in to their spoiled children. Compare them to the incumbent politicians in your district and state. Vote out every one of them that can’t say no to more spending. In these economic hard times, that is the only way for our family budgets – and our nation — to survive.

We need to stop giving a “Tickle Me Nelson” to every U.S. Senator.

Former State Rep. Terri McCormick Announces Campaign for U.S. Congress

APPLETON, Wisc. — Former State Representative Terri McCormick today announced her bid to become the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District.  Citing a need for common sense citizen legislators to be elected rather than career politicians, McCormick vowed to take on special interest groups, promote term limits, reform the   health care system and work to grow our economy to create jobs.

“Our country is at a crossroads and it has become clear that we are spending beyond our means. What tough choices will the politicians make?” she asked.  “Many politicians won’t help grow the economy while voting for new social programs and raising taxes on individuals and businesses,” she said.

McCormick’s legislative priorities in Congress will include working to cut government spending, reducing the national debt, expanding educational opportunities, reforming the health care system, increasing transparency and accountability in Congress and introducing federal term limits legislation.

With a track record that includes reducing health care costs for businesses and pioneering Wisconsin’s charter school legislation, McCormick is no stranger to achieving legislative results.  “My time as a State Representative has enabled me to understand the nuts and bolts of the concerns residents in this district have – an anti-competitive economy, a burdensome tax and regulatory climate and the growing disconnect between the political class and common people,” she said.

McCormick served in the Wisconsin State House, representing district 56 including parts of Appleton and Oshkosh, from 2000 to 2006.  In 2006, she upheld her original term limits pledge of three terms and ran for U.S. Congress, but lost in the primary.  She was also a Truman Scholar and is a small businesswoman and author.

“I am running on a platform of freedom and prosperity.  I encourage all who are concerned about the direction in which our country is headed – and the freedoms we are losing here at home – to join in this campaign,” McCormick said.
