Terri McCormick was recently endorsed by Change the Congress in 2010 and by Wisconsin Right to Life. Catherine Welborn of Change the Congress in 2010 said about Terri, she’s “a person who cares about people … who has balanced a budget … has created jobs — real jobs; and will put her God and her country above herself.”

With the solid support of friends across the country, residents of the great state of Wisconsin, and People V. U.S., Terri McCormick recently reached her campaign goal of raising $100,000 during the second quarter. Committed to representing her neighbors in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, Terri McCormick is focused on creating a better future for America — a future in which the Constitution of the United States is the authority and the voices of the people are heard and respected in Washington, DC.

Here is her recent published opinion on health care:

GREEN BAY, Wis., May 14, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ —-The following statement was issued by Terri McCormick in May, 2010:

(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20100514/DC05241)

The retirement of Congressman David Obey (D-WI-07) last week marks the end of what can be dubbed as “The Era of Entitlement.” All too often in public policy today, the political class elected to office generations ago trust that government can and should be all things to all people.

Home for my family is Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District, represented by Dr. Steve Kagen (D-WI-08). Kagen’s votes in Congress have towed the same top-down, elitist mindset as Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama. To me, it appears that these politicians believe that they know best, are entitled to taxpayer dollars, and can turn to the Federal Reserve to print more money whenever they run out.

As a result, tenured politicians have overspent and overburdened the American people to the point of economic ruin. There is now a jobs crisis, especially here in Wisconsin and a collapsed value in the dollar. Worse yet, politicians rammed through a so-called health care reform bill that will actually raise costs and put more burdens on consumers during this recession.

Just yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office said they did not have enough time to score the health care bill because it was rammed through in such a desperate and partisan fashion. In response, Americans of all stripes have organized Tea Party groups to protest the inability of both parties to advocate for the hurting American taxpayer.

No one can afford the blank check that Congress has written. Those who are paying attention are sick and tired of this new prescription for entitlement health care written by a government filled with tenured politicians who say one thing and do another at the expense of the American people.

I believe we must return to the basics of American governance. “Back to basics” underscores the importance of personal responsibility, which should be the norm and not the exception. Healthcare policy must return to the once common-held belief that personal health care choices are more desirable than top-down solutions from the federal government.

Personalized health care choices not only help the consumer, but they will also empower our suffering economy and will result in the restoration of a stronger, more competitive health care industry.

We all know that Washington, DC has dug a hole so deep with the infamous “Christmas Eve Health Care Bill Earmarks” that it could take generations to climb our way out of the near $13 trillion debt. The alternative is quite simple: Health care policy should begin with reducing costs and improving health care quality for consumers.

Through private-sector entrepreneurship and American innovation, the health care cost crisis can be resolved. American consumers seek the freedom to choose their own health care professionals with full transparency of cost and quality.

Serving in public office is an honor, not an entitlement. To resolve the healthcare cost crisis, policy makers must focus on the economic forces that will bring about personal responsibility, free-market transparency, and a more competitive healthcare industry.

Terri McCormick’s Five-Point Plan to Reduce Health Care Costs:

1. Quality and Dignity of Life First

Individuals and families must be provided the freedom to choose their own doctors, procedures, preventative care treatments, and prescription drugs by encouraging private ownership of one’s own medical histories and emergency information.

2. Portability

A refundable tax credit of $2,300 per individual and $5,700 for families will be provided to purchase health care coverage from any source, including across state lines or from any national health care provider.

3. Transparency of Cost

The quality and costs of medical procedures and services must be provided and be easily accessible so that Americans may choose the best practice and cost that fits their needs.

4. Peace of Mind

State-based high risk pools will provide access to affordable care for those with pre-existing conditions. Many states, including Wisconsin, have already implemented such a pool.

5. Protecting Families

Tort reform will lower the cost of health care by lowering the cost to practice medicine and by protecting the victims of malpractice by capping the percentage tort lawyers may take from money supposed to be used to heal a victim or a victim’s family.

It is my hope that concerned Americans — who outnumber those not concerned — will continue the discussion in their communities and states until the politicians either get the message or are booted out of office and replaced by citizen leaders. We must always remember that when solutions spring forth from the people, we are a stronger nation for it. Our republic is strengthened through individual liberties and personal responsibility that has resulted in the American Dream for so many.

Terri McCormick is the author “What Sex is a Republican? Stories from the Front Lines of American Politics.” She had the honor of serving as a Wisconsin State Representative from 2001 to 2007 and Chaired the House Economic Development Committee and the House Subcommittee on Healthcare Cost Reform. She is a Republican candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

Dear Neighbor,

Thanks for subscribing to my newsletter, The McCormick Message. Please review what’s been going on over the last month below.

As you know, I’ve been criss-crossing the district to meet with Tea Party groups, small business owners, homeschoolers, and other concerned voters. The results are paying off as the campaign continues to build its infrastructure. If you haven’t yet done so, please sign up to volunteer for the campaign today. In the coming months, there will be plenty of opportunities to get more active.

Finally, I am asking you for your most generous contribution of $25 or $75 or $250 today. If you give any amount over $100 I will send you a copy of my book. But, truly, any amount will really make the difference.

You see, my primary opponents are Washington insiders who are already connected to the special interest groups that have driven politics to its pathetic state. I offer an alternative vision – representing the people rather than the special interests. And I therefore must rely on the generosity of my supporters to run this campaign. So please give your most generous contribution today. It means so much to me and will be used to restore integrity to Washington.

Cordially,

Terri

First Survey in 8th District Race: McCormick Leads Republicans and Steve Kagen!

According to the only survey results in the 8th District primary race, former State Representative Terri McCormick is in the lead. Despite being a former legislator, McCormick is perceived as an outsider whose common sense message resonates with voters. In a crowded primary field, she stands out as the only candidate with electoral name identification and a record of significant accomplishment.

A telephone survey of high-propensity registered voters within the 8th Congressional District was conducted in March 23-24, 2010. The sample size of 500 yields a sampling error of less than +/- 4.5%.

Terri McCormick leads the primary field among Republicans with 14% followed by Roth with 11.1%, Trager with 10.3%, Ribble with 4.5%, and the rest of the field with a 9.9%. The key to this race is the large undecided at 50.2%.

Even more shocking and encouraging: In a General Election head-to-head matchup, McCormick polls at 44.58% and Kagen polls at 37.94%, with 17.48% undecided at the present time. The full results can be found here.

These numbers are so encouraging that we hope you’ll send a donation to Terri’s campaign immediately to help the momentum continue.

Terri McCormick Discusses Primary Campaign Lead on “Freedom Watch”

Terri discussed the dynamics of the race on FOX News “Freedom Watch” on Wednesday. View the episode online here. In the interview, she discussed the health care bill that Democrats rammed through Congress — supported 100% by northeast Wisconsin Democrat Steve Kagen.

One of Terri’s supporters also penned a cartoon to illustrate the reality of the sad situation created by Kagen’s support of the health care legislation:

Ways to Help Terri’s Campaign

This campaign is a grassroots effort to win the hearts and minds of Wisconsin’s 8th District voters. We would love to have you more involved in the campaign. Here are a few immediate ways you can get involved:

Terri McCormick Endorsed by Businessman Terry Kohler

Republican Eighth Congressional district candidate Terri McCormick, a former State Representative who pioneered innovative legislation to decrease the cost of health care and reduce regulations on small businesses in the legislature, has received an endorsement from longtime Republican Party benefactor Terry J. Kohler of Sheboygan.

Mr. Kohler, who has a distinguished career in leadership and business, was most recently one of two elected Republican National Committee members from Wisconsin.

Terri McCormick: On Elections Reflecting the Voters’ Wishes

“There is a stark difference between Republican voters and the establishment mentality that believes in entitlement to positions. If we can get the press to focus on ideas and solving problems rather than on how much cash is coming from closed door deals, the people might actually have a decision in this race.” — Terri on FOX News “Freedom Watch”, April 27, 2010

Welcome to the March Edition of the McCormick Message which keeps you updated on a campaign to return the Eighth District to common sense government Of, By, and For the People.

Over the last several months, I have traveled the district and talked with voters. People are so angry. They are angry at Democrats and Republicans, and the ineffective way that Washington operates.

I realize that credibility cannot be bought or borrowed, that it must be earned. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to browse my website, read my views, and watch policy videos where I explain my ideas for reforming Congress and reducing government interference in the economy. If you like what you see, please sign up to volunteer for this campaign.

Steve Kagen and Nancy Pelosi are working together to curtail American freedom, and we need a strong leader who will stand up and provide market-based solutions to the problems our country faces.

The Terri McCormick campaign has to report its final fundraising numbers for the first quarter of 2010 on March 31, so any support you can provide, no matter how small, will really make a difference.

Steve Kagen’s Health Care Vote Inexcusable and Out of Touch With Northeast Wisconsin

Terri McCormick of Appleton is a vocal opponent of the Obama-Pelosi-Kagen government takeover bill. Last week Terri released the details of how Steve Kagen acted as the point man to corral additional Blue Dog Democrats to vote for the health care legislation on the House floor. This week, McCormick pledges to work to repeal the federal government’s health care takeover if voters of the Eighth elect her to Congress. Read more …

Endorsements for Terri McCormick Coming In

Despite the crowded field to face politician Steve Kagen, Terri McCormick has received some notable early endorsements, including the Republican Liberty Caucus of Wisconsin, LibertySlate.com, and several notable business owners in Northeast Wisconsin. Terri is expecting some even more significant endorsements in the coming months, from local officials and Republican Party leaders.

If you are a business owner, elected official, community leader, or concerned American who wishes to endorse Terri in her bid to replace Steve Kagen, please contact us today.

McCormick Letter to the Editor Published in Green Bay Press-Gazette

“Only a few weeks after President Obama’s inauguration, Kagen voted in favor of $742 billion in new spending and a $410 billion omnibus appropriation. Kagen has voted in favor of nearly every single spending bill since then. Kagen has no one to blame but himself as our country’s deficit climbs by trillions of dollars.

It is unacceptable for Kagen to work tirelessly to increase spending in an effort to curry favor with President Obama and Speaker Pelosi only to send articles home to Wisconsin touting his imaginary fiscal responsibility.” Read more …

Cap-and-Trade Bill May Be Next

Now that President Obama and Congressman Kagen have passed their health care scheme, their next endeavor may be Cap-and-Tax, which Congressman Kagen proudly voted for last summer. Cap-and-Trade is complex legislation that will increase the costs of energy so much that American consumers will use less of it, which curtail “greenhouse gas” emissions. In addition to taxing consumers, Democrats added a provision which imposes stiff tariffs on U.S. trade partners if they don’t adopt aggressive carbon restrictions of their own. Talk about rule by force!

Thankfully, the legislation didn’t make it out of the Senate in 2009, but there’s always 2010 and 2011 for Mr. Obama. Let’s make sure Steve Kagen isn’t in Congress in 2011 to help with Obama’s Cap-and-Trade tax hike proposal.

The last Cap-and-Tax bill was 1,300-pages of nonsense that, just like the health care bill, won’t solve any problems it purports to solve. If people find out what is really in the legislation, they will – no doubt – not support it. Terri McCormick will make sure to expose the tax-hiking proposal for what it is. Terri talks more about Cap-and-Tax in her December, 2009 article “A Season to be Thankful and a Time for Courage“.

What Terri Says: On Health Care

“In 2002, I led the Speaker’s Taskforce for Local Government Healthcare Partnerships. We used a business model to address runaway healthcare costs that threatened state and local government. We held a dozen hearings around the State, listening to the people as they identified the reasons for cost spikes. With the help of private-sector talent, we crafted and passed the Competitive Prescription Drug Purchasing Pool, which saved $25 million for non-represented state employees alone, in the first year. We recommended the use of Internet transparency for healthcare cost bidding, as well as a quality control system of standards where communities can view provider ratings online.”

“This approach put free market mechanisms in place to ensure a level playing field for health care competition. Contrast this pork-free plan with the U.S. Senate Christmas-tree bill, and you can see that government can, and must, do better.”
— Terri McCormick, “U.S. Senate: Naughty or Nice,” January 2010
