Terri McCormick on Jobs and Economic Development

The single most important issue facing Wisconsin is creating new private sector jobs. Terri McCormick doesn’t believe government can successfully do that because too much government is the problem. Terri believes government waste, fraud, and mismanagement that have produced the main threat facing our country: financial insolvency.

The country cannot continue to borrow 55 cents of every dollar spent by the federal government. We cannot expand federal entitlement programs as Congressman Kagen has voted to do time and time again. And we cannot continue to use 20th century methods to address the global crises of the 21st century.

While in the legislature, Terri McCormick served as the Chairwoman of Economic Development Committee from 2003 to 2006. During that time, Wisconsin saw a spike in revenues from a healthy economy. Representative McCormick’s work on capital investment reform, including her Small Business Regulation Reform Act, to create vibrant economic growth reducing burdensome regulations on small business.

Terri McCormick was instrumental in “Wisconsin’s Blueprint for Change” to reduce business regulations and to assist in start-up business creation and growth. The changes Terri championed included:

Reduced Regulations to Help Small Business Grow

Terri authored and passed one of the nation’s first Small Business Regulation Reform Acts in the country. This act was awarded a Best Practices Award by the Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C.

Investment Capital Creation and Growth

Terri introduced legislation to provide the tools individuals and corporations need to invest capital in start-up ventures.

She also authored and passed legislation to restore funding to the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership, which provided technical expertise and hands-on assistance to small and mid-sized manufacturers.

Representative McCormick authored and passed Act 255, which established capital investment as a vehicle for entrepreneur centers across the state as well as angel networks investing in the business ideas leading to tomorrow’s businesses and jobs.

She also passed legislation to remove a law that prohibited cooperative advertising between liquor retailers.

She co-authored and passed legislation to provide licensed milk contractors the option to file an annual compilation of financial information accompanied by a sworn and notarized statement that the financial information is correct rather than an annual audited or reviewed financial statement to DATCP.

Tri City Glass & Door and NFIB Honor Terri McCormick

Chuck Bender, Larry Bender, Donna Dorn and Jo Ann Bender hosted the Wisconsin chapter of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) to present the Guardian of Small Business Award to Terri McCormick on April 25, 2005 at Tri City Glass & Door.

Chuck Bender thanked Rep. McCormick for her tireless work in the state legislature on behalf of small businesses.

She was recognized for her consistent support of small business issues in the legislature and for co-authoring the regulatory reform legislation that Governor Doyle signed into law last year. Legislators are selected for the award by members of the Wisconsin NFIB Leadership Council, which is comprised of small-business owners from throughout the state.

Terri McCormick represented the 56th Assembly District that comprises portions of Appleton, western Outagamie County and western Winnebago County. Terri chose to receive her award at Tri City Glass & Door because of the company’s long-standing membership and support of NFIB.

Bill Smith, President of the Wisconsin Chapter of NFIB, Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna and Grand Chute Town Chairman Mike Marsden were present along with 60 business partners, associates and neighbors of Tri City Glass & Door. Business founder Shirley Bender-Gehrt was also present.

In summary, Representative McCormick:
