Terri McCormick on Healthcare

While in the Wisconsin legislature, Representative McCormick took the lead on health care at the state level. Terri recognizes that one of the biggest problems facing American families is how to afford quality health care coverage. She hopes to go to Congress to work toward innovative, market-driven solutions to increase affordability and access.

Some of the solutions Terri supports that have not seen the light of day include:

• Decreasing federal involvement in the issue, returning it to the states;
• Allowing insurers to cross state lines;
• Empowering individuals to view different health care options via the Internet;
• Transparency for health care cost bidding;
• Repealing bureaucratic rules that reduce competition among insurers, which will result in lower costs and;
• Prescription Drug Purchasing Pools, which saved Wisconsin taxpayers $25 million in its first year

Terri McCormick will work to repeal the Obamacare proposal that was signed into law earlier this year. Terri opposes the public option or any other Washington power grab to take over the health care system. She believes that government-manipulated monopolies of insurance, health care and other medical services must be replaced by market driven providers who compete on an equal playing field. Consumers and health care providers can only succeed when our system allows the patient/doctor choices to flourish.

While in the Wisconsin legislature, Representative McCormick took the lead on heath care at the state level, saving the state more than $25 million during the first year of the McCormick Health Care Reform Package.

“One of the biggest problems facing American families is how to afford quality health care coverage. We must work towards innovative solutions that increase accessibility while still preserving the free-market principles that our nation was founded upon,” according to McCormick.

Here is the plan Terri created in Wisconsin:

Under the Department of Employee Trust Funds, which administers retirement and benefit programs for 550,000 Wisconsinites and 1,400 employers, Terri wrote and passed Wisconsin’s first competitive prescription drug plan for unrepresented state employees.  The net savings was $25 million in the first year of the plan’s implementation.  Terri also wrote transparency and open bid requirements so that the public could trace the costs of healthcare proposals to ensure quality and cost.
