Representative McCormick has a history of achievements in leadership, public policy innovation, and public service. She also has an actual track record of delivering on her promises.

Terri believes that “credibility cannot be borrowed nor can it be bought.” Rather, it is earned with the trust built upon the foundations of integrity and honesty. She has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals living in the state of Wisconsin and hopes to continue her efforts as your representative in Congress.

HEALTH CARE SOLUTIONS FROM REPRESENTATIVE TERRI MCCORMICK

While in the Wisconsin legislature, Representative McCormick took the lead on health care at the state level. McCormick recognizes that one of the biggest problems facing American families is how to afford quality health care coverage. She hopes to go to Congress to work toward innovative, market-driven solutions to increase affordability and access.

Some of the solutions Terri supports that have not seen the light of day include:

• Decrease federal involvement in the issue, returning it to the states;
• Allowing insurers to cross state lines;
• Empowering individuals to view different health care options via the Internet;
• Transparency for health care cost bidding;
• Repealing bureaucratic rules that reduce competition among insurers, which will result in lower costs and;
• Prescription Drug Purchasing Pools, which saved Wisconsin taxpayers $25 million in its first year

Terri McCormick opposes the public option or any other Washington power grab to take over the health care system. She believes that government-manipulated monopolies of insurance, health care and other medical services must be replaced by market driven providers who compete on an equal playing field. Consumers and health care providers can only succeed when our system allows the patient/doctor choices to flourish.

See Terri’s Legislative Track Record on Health Care.

Representative Terri McCormick has taken the lead on heath care at the state level saving the state more than $25 million during the first year of the McCormick Health Care Reform Package. Rep. McCormick is dedicated to making progress in health care reform in Washington.

“One of the biggest problems facing American families is how to afford quality health care coverage. We must work towards innovative solutions that increase accessibility while still preserving the free-market principles that our nation was founded upon.”

Here is the plan she created in Wisconsin:

Agency: Department of Employee Trust Funds

1. Wrote the State’s First competitive prescription drug plan for un represented State Employees, saving the state $25 million its first year.

2. Wrote transparency and open bid requirements so that the public could trace the costs of healthcare proposals to ensure quality and cost.

Defending the United States Constitution and Personal Liberty

Every generation of Terri’s family has served in the U.S. military, since the Civil War. The freedoms all Americans cherish came with a price to many servicemen and women. Honoring the sacrifice of ‘Freedom’s Call’ must not be taken lightly or be forgotten. The United States Constitution is our original — and true — Contract with America.

Unfortunately, as our national debt continues to skyrocket, Terri is concerned about the impact some domestic policies are having on civil liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. As a former member of the Wisconsin Assembly, Terri swore an oath to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Read More Here.

As a strict constitutionalist, Terri has reviewed many pieces of legislation that have passed through the halls of Congress without so much as a debate or without Members of Congress reading the bills.

Terri plans to read the bills before voting on them.

In 2001, the USA PATRIOT Act was passed, which allows for the private communications of law-abiding U.S. citizens to be intercepted by the government – without so much as a court order. This law empowers the FBI to search library, bank, and business records without your knowledge. This law violates the Fourth Amendment, which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures.

In 2005, the Congress passed the REAL ID Act, which creates a de facto national identification card for every man and woman in the country. This law not only violates the Tenth Amendment (and leads to violations of the First Amendment right to peaceably assemble), but it also collects Americans’ private information for government databases and leaves us all more vulnerable to identity thieves.

Both Republicans and Democrats went along with these anti-liberty measures that did not separate Americans from Enemy Combatants. Fear during a time of a National Security Crisis was the reason for the loss of basic freedoms every American has come to expect. Our lawmakers must ask, “Have these measures worked? Have they been effective”

In Congress, Terri will be a strong voice to protect the rights of all law-abiding Americans. As our troops continue to fight the War on Terror abroad, we must be concerned about the Rights and Responsibilities that our military soldiers have sworn to protect and defend, our Constitution and our freedoms here at home.

Terri McCormick on Taxes and Spending

United States House of Representatives Candidate

[See post to watch Flash video]

As a small businesswoman, Terri McCormick is certain that tax reform is long overdue. The problem begins and ends with the out of control spending in Washington, DC by Representatives who are totally out of touch with the American people. The U.S. tax code is in desperate need of reform; it’s too complex for families and small business owners, and the system has been allowed to linger on and on for decades without substantive changes. The nation is now over 12 trillion dollars in debt, meaning every Wisconsinite (and American) will eventually owe $42,000 to the government to pay back the debt. The total sum of all of our unfunded obligations — Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid — is an astonishing $55,000,000,000,000 (55 trillion dollars), or $180,000 for every American.

As a state legislator, Terri McCormick voted for a budget that included the elimination of the Social Security tax, voted to freeze property taxes for homeowners, authored property tax relief for combat disabled veterans, and worked to cut the state’s gas tax.

In Congress, Terri will fight for:

• Streamlining the Internal Revenue Service;
• Repealing the federal tax code to replacing it with a fairer, simpler system such as a flat tax;
• Eliminating pork-barrel spending, earmarks, or pet projects included in legislation; and
• Transparency in the federal government’s budgetary processes, including online accounting so Wisconsin taxpayers can see where their money is being spent

She believes that “every earmark, pork barrel spending scheme, every bureaucracy created takes freedoms away from Wisconsin residents.”

In the Wisconsin Assembly, Terri authored the Small Business Regulation Reform Act which required an economic impact statement be attached to any piece of legislation that would potentially harm small business growth. The free market was also strengthened by Terri’s reforms for capital investment, competitive bidding pools, and transparency policies she worked on in the legislature.

Terri believes that removing government regulation unleashes the creative forces of the free-market, which encourage competition and result in economic growth. She also believes that responsible government begins with the understanding that the job of government is to serve the people, not be their master.

Terri believes that quality education begins with opportunities for all children to have access to instructors, mentors, and curriculum that empower them to learn and grow. She understands that competition empowers gifted educators to provide learning environments that reach students and ultimately reduce costs in the process.

Terri founded the public charter school movement in Wisconsin and was the author of Wisconsin’s first charter school laws. As a former classroom teacher, she understands that world class educational opportunities must be created in Northeast Wisconsin. After all, what is more important than our children?

In addition to supporting school choice, public charter schools, and voucher programs, Terri has always been a supporter of homeschooling. All children deserve the opportunity to be given the essential tools they need to be literate and to participate in the vibrant American economy.

Specific solutions Terri will work toward in Congress include:

• Working to encourage educational choice options including vouchers, homeschooling, and charter schooling;
• Returning education to the states and the people by working to decrease Washington influence on Wisconsin schools;
• Working to eliminate wasteful or bureaucratic programs that fall under the arm of the Department of Education; and
• Reforming the curriculum of Teacher Colleges, to empower teachers to be skilled not only in the emotional needs of students, but also in their content area

See Terri’s Legislative Track Record on Education.

In the photo at left, Terri is standing behind Governor Tommy Thompson as he signs the first Wisconsin charter school bill into law. As a result of the legislation, there are now 25,000 students in public charter schools in the Wisconsin. In the 1990s, Terri build a coalition called the Wisconsin Charter School Association to enact this important reform.

Charter schools provide more choices for families and empower innovative educators from across Wisconsin to focus on solutions to help children learn. According to Terri, “As a young girl, my father and mother instilled in me the value of education as the foundation for success in life. I believe it is our responsibility as a nation to empower families with the tools they need to ensure their children’s livelihoods.”

Preserving freedom and keeping our Republic depend on a well-educated population. Our business and economic vitality hinges on a well-educated and highly-skilled workforce. To that end, Terri McCormick will be a strong voice for Wisconsin educational choices, the Wisconsin Technical College system, and the UW system.

Terri McCormick is deeply concerned about America’s dependence on foreign oil, both economically and from a national security perspective. Fortunately, new alternative energies such as compressed natural gas and liquid natural gas, as well as an array of other alternative energies such as bio fuels, solar, and wind energy are plentiful within our own borders.

Terri believes the country needs more refinery capacity to process our supply of crude oil to reduce dependence on foreign crude and refineries. She supports federal tax incentives for companies that develop new sources of energy and the delivery infrastructure to transport it to market, but is opposed to federal subsidies.

The ultimate goal of reducing energy costs, eliminating dependence on foreign oil, and increasing efficiency for the consumer can only occur with less government intervention, more competition, and fewer taxes on producers.

The problems today stem from the flood of undocumented aliens who cross our borders illegally. Any meaningful solution to the illegal immigration problem must focus on the following; first, securing the borders; second, children born in America to undocumented aliens have dual citizenship and they must return to their parents’ home country when work visas expire. Further measures that will help stem the tide of undocumented illegal workers include; immigration policy that allows for better documentation and permits for temporary guest workers; tighter border security; and enforcement of existing laws already on the books. It is the job of United States authorities to know who is crossing our borders and to prevent criminals from entering the country.

As a State Legislator, Terri wrote and authored a bill to reduce the burden of property taxes for Wisconsin’s combat disabled veterans in 2006.

She will support fully funding VA healthcare and supports an amendment to the Constitution protecting the American flag.

“People ask me, Harold, what makes Terri McCormick so special? Why are you supporting her campaign with such enthusiasm?

My simple response is, because Terri McCormick has courage. She has independence.

She has the smarts and the ability to get things done against tough odds.

And this old U.S. Army vet is not alone. Nearly every veteran is supporting Terri; the veterans still surviving from WWII, to my war, Vietnam, to those brave souls returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

We trusted Terri would help our disabled veterans with keeping their homes. And she delivered. AB 242, the Disabled Veterans Tax Credit bill, creates a property tax credit for those suffering from both their war injuries and now, economic hardship.

Terri McCormick is not a politician. She has challenged her Party’s leadership without retreat. She has marched with veterans and now it is our duty to march with her.”

She believes that the United States military must be equipped with the best technology and intelligence possible to protect our soldiers when defending America’s freedoms. She believes as our founders did, that America’s specific interests must be defended. She supports a strong and capable military that both defends America’s interests and protects us against terrorists. However, stretching our military soldiers over the span of eight years across 700 bases around the world in 150 different countries acting as policemen of the world is not feasible militarily or fiscally. Terri has called for American troops to be strategically withdrawn in order to protect American servicemen and women with leadership that defines the mission, objective and timeline of military wars. She believes that American troops should only be deployed when our national security is threatened and military action is necessary.
