Votes for Cap-Trade, Government Stimulus, and Obamacare Slap in Face to District Values

September 9, 2010

APPLETON, WI – Congressman Steve Kagen has served nearly two full terms in office, but his worst votes all boil down to one core theme: government solutions that raise taxes, increase regulations, and kill jobs.

Last year Congressman Kagen voted for Cap and Trade, under which the government would set a cap on the total amount of greenhouse gases that can be emitted nationally. The problem with the legislation is in the details. The end result of the plan, if enacted, would be less affordable housing, greater taxes and regulations, and more government coercion aimed at private citizens.

Congressman Kagen also voted for the Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008, Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act of 2008, and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The latter two bills were government solutions to create jobs and revive the economy. “Government does not create jobs,” said Terri McCormick, Republican candidate for Congress. “Which is becoming all too evident as the stimulus money is being spent but the unemployment rate continues to climb.”

The Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2008 was a government rescue of a problem created by too much government intervention in the housing market to begin with. The law did not solve the problems created by relaxed subprime lending practices and the bursting of the U.S. housing bubble. “While government continues to be the solution Steve Kagen turns to, I think we need to ask deeper questions about what the role of government should be — especially as government solutions continue to fail consumers,” said Terri McCormick.

Finally, Kagen voted for the Obama health care bill, which at least 17 states have filed suit against. The legislation will increase health care costs, reduce the patient-doctor relationship, and cut from Medicare. “Congressman Kagen took to the House floor on the very day that Congress passed Obamacare to offer a doctor’s perspective on why the Obama-Pelosi government takeover of health care was the right prescription,” said Terri McCormick. “It was shocking to see that someone from northeast Wisconsin would become the spokesman for taking away the patient-doctor relationship — and even more disappointing that a doctor would do it,” she concluded.

Terri McCormick would have voted against all of these measures and instead supported measures to empower northeast Wisconsinites through the free market system.

Terri McCormick – A Candidate with Integrity
September 8, 2010

SAYNER, WI – Kerry Thomas, who was briefly a candidate in the race for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, has formally endorsed Terri McCormick in that race. Thomas has released the following statement:

Like so many of you, I’ve been sorely disappointed with the caliber of candidates recruited by the professional political class recently, all too often proffering candidates who have more money than integrity, who are willing to compromise their principles in exchange for political favors.

But there is one candidate in the race to represent Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District who is willing to stand up to these party insiders, refusing to compromise her Constitutional principles.

Terri McCormick will not play political games with our money or our children’s futures. She won’t sell out her constituents to advance her own career.

While her opponents make political promises about what they will do, Terri McCormick has already proven what she can do. While her opponents promise to limit their tenure in Congress, Terri McCormick has already term-limited herself out of the Wisconsin Assembly. While her opponents promise to do “something” to fix our health care system, Terri McCormick’s legislative efforts to reform Wisconsin’s prescription drug purchasing pools saved Wisconsin taxpayers more than $25 million in just the first year they were implemented. And thanks to Terri McCormick, more than 30,000 Wisconsin families now have the option of enrolling their children in charter schools.

Unlike her primary opponents, Terri McCormick knows the Constitution is more than “just a piece of paper.” As the only constitutional conservative in the race, she won’t support legislation that violates her oath to the Constitution.

Terri McCormick isn’t running for Congress so she can go to Washington and play political games. This makes her a threat to career politicians and party leaders who deal in political favors and promises, using our money to buy and sell votes.

Party insiders who’ve tried to buy off Terri McCormick have already learned she won’t be bought. Threats to ruin her “political career” haven’t intimidated her, because Terri McCormick doesn’t intend to make a career out of politics.

I’m supporting Terri McCormick in her bid to represent me in Congress because, unlike her opponents, she’s a person with true integrity. She’s already proven she won’t sell us out to buy her political future. That’s real integrity. That takes courage. And that’s the kind of representation we should all be fortunate enough to have in America.

“Kerry Thomas understands the need for change in Congress and in business as usual politics,” stated Terri McCormick. “It is a privilege to have his endorsement and support as our campaign works to bring government back to We the People.”

Kerry Thomas’ political editorials can be found on his website, www.kerrythomas.com.

APPLETON, WI – A pair of northeast Wisconsin military veterans is announcing their support of Terri McCormick in the Eighth Congressional District race.

Gary Lapp, past Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Harold Grimes, past National Commander of Uniformed Services Disabled Retirees, are spending their free time knocking on doors and rallying support for Terri McCormick ahead of next Tuesday’s Republican primary. Citing her record on veterans’ affairs issues in the Wisconsin Assembly, the pair are convinced McCormick will go to Washington to work for veterans.

“As a past National Commander of USDR, a member of DAV, VFW, and many other veterans association, I enthusiastically endorse Terri McCormick for Congress. Terri McCormick has courage and independence,” said Harold Grimes, a retired Army First Sergeant and resident of Little Suamico.

Gary Lapp, a Green Bay resident, Vietnam veteran, and past Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, explained his support for Terri McCormick: “My first encounter with Terri McCormick was when I doubted her sincerity about the Veteran’s Property Tax Credit she proposed. She let me know in no uncertain terms that she was sincere about the issue and the rights of veterans. When no other Representatives would even consider this proposal, she succeeded in getting it through the Wisconsin Assembly.”

“I have found Terri to be an honest, hardworking, straightforward, commonsense problem solver that I can trust to help put Washington back on the righteous and constitutional track. I will support Terri in her effort for the 8th District of Wisconsin and urge all veterans to do the same,” concluded Mr. Lapp.

Concluded Mr. Grimes, “We trusted Terri to help our disabled veterans with keeping their homes. While in the Assembly, she delivered AB 242, the Disabled Veterans Tax Credit bill. She has marched with veterans and now it is our duty to march with her.”

Terri McCormick, Republican candidate for Congress, commented on the endorsement: “I am honored to have support from the Wisconsin veteran community. These courageous men put their lives on the line for our country. Their support of my campaign means so much to me.”

August 19, 2010 – APPLETON, WISCONSIN – Republican Candidate for Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District, Terri McCormick, is weighing in on the $150 billion of taxpayer dollars directed to mortgage giants Fannie Mae (the Federal National Mortgage Association) and Freddie Mac (the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation) to keep them afloat.

Despite combined losses of $9 billion from the April to June period, Fannie and Freddie are seeking more than $3 billion more in bailout dollars from taxpayers.

The latest numbers indicate that the bailout of Fannie and Freddie – one of the most sweeping government interventions in the economy in U.S. history – have not been overly successful. “Government-sponsored entities like Fannie and Freddie have special privileges, which leads to a complete lack of accountability,” stated Terri McCormick. In particular, the agencies do not have to follow rules that private companies must abide by and they are exempt from state and federal income taxes.

“Putting large amounts of interest rate risk or credit to a small number of entities will only exacerbate the problem and increase the risk,” said McCormick. “The net impact of which will be more expensive homes.”

“We need problem-solvers who will investigate and tackle problems like mortgage and government-granted special privileges,” concluded McCormick. “Most important of all: We must never again use taxpayer dollars to bailout Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.”

Terri McCormick served in the Wisconsin Assembly, representing district 56 including parts of Appleton and Oshkosh, from 2000 to 2006. She is a teacher, author, small business owner, and conservative leader.

The only campaign in the district to show organized support throughout the district

August 10, 2010 – APPLETON, Wisconsin – The Terri McCormick for Congress Campaign has organized the entire 8th District with County Coordinators covering every county. As this is no small feat we are ever thankful for the outpouring of support from our fellow patriots. Some may think this level of organization to be over-kill for a primary, but we constitutional conservatives know that Kagen must be removed.

As the primary election draws near it is up to the voters to decide, who is the best candidate to take down “Obama’s Doctor”. This decision will be based on who is the most constitutionally conservative candidate and who has the strongest campaign to hit the ground running after the primary. Terri McCormick has proven through her service in the legislature, exposure of corruption, and self-term limited integrity that she can be trusted to uphold and maintain our constitutional conservative values in the face of Washington’s dark political climate.

The McCormick Campaign continues to demonstrate the strength and resolve of our commitment to retire Congressman Kagen by multiplying our presence in critical voting areas, maintaining our significant lead against him in the polls, and organizing the only campaign in this race with a network of County Coordinators. This County Coordinator program is not just meant to remove Kagen, but to also strengthen the 8th District in the future against his ideology of big government. Our crusade against socialism and big government politicians has been championed by Terri McCormick.

“I am grateful for this mounting support from fellow concerned citizens,” stated Terri McCormick. “Their bravery to step up and face possible negativity from the Kagen campaign is very commendable. As we enter this late stage in the primary we are preparing to hit the ground running against the left establishment machine. The growing grass-roots involvement in this campaign is truly astounding and shows that our movement’s momentum is growing.”

An in-depth look at the County Coordinator program will be available at www.TerriMcCormickforCongress.com

APPLETON, Wisconsin – The Terri McCormick for Congress Campaign today announced that Will Johnson has been named Campaign Manager. As a former congressional candidate in Iowa, Will Johnson brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the McCormick campaign.

Mr. Johnson has worked exclusively with Tea Parties in Iowa and was the only Congressional candidate to be endorsed by the Iowa Tea Parties in 2010. During his campaign, Johnson was able to maximize results with minimal resources and was the only candidate to establish a network of coordinators in every county. Additionally, Johnson served in the Navy from 2001-2005 as a Naval Intelligence Hebrew linguist.

“As a constitutional Tea Party activist, I thoroughly researched all of the candidates here in Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District before deciding to unequivocally back and support Terri McCormick,” explained Johnson. “Without a doubt, Terri is the candidate with the most comprehensive understanding of the U.S. Constitution and its applications to all of the problems we see in Washington today.” Johnson went on to say, “I look forward to getting to know my fellow Midwesterners in Wisconsin as the campaign progresses and encourage voters to stay informed and become active.”

Both McCormick and Johnson are committed to upholding the Constitution and ensuring that the needs and wants of voters are brought to Washington. Shared views and intentions include:

- Congress must constitutionally declare war;
– The United States must stop subsidizing socialism;
– Enact bold leadership to drastically curb federal government spending, taxes and agencies; and
– Continue the Tea Party trend toward true individual freedom and responsibility.

“I am honored to have Will’s leadership and ability to find innovative solutions in our Congressional race,” stated Terri McCormick. “Our entire staff has come together to put the people of northeast Wisconsin first. With the professional team that we have built, we hope to earn your trust and support in the September 14th and November 2nd elections.”

Agency Says Deficits Will Cause Debt to Rise to Unsupportable Levels

July 29, 2010
Contact: Will Johnson
Phone: 920-209-2357
Email: press@mccormickforcongress.com

APPLETON, Wisconsin – Eighth District Republican Congressional candidate Terri McCormick has already made a personal pledge to voters that she will never vote for tax-increasing legislation and will introduce legislation to lower taxes and curb the deficit.

In a report released earlier this week by the Congressional Budget Office, the legislative agency responsible for providing economic data to Congress, the debt is now higher in comparison with the total output of the economy than any period in American history with the exception of World War II.

The report maintains that “a growing level of federal debt would also increase the probability of a sudden fiscal crisis” and “[t]o restore investors’ confidence, policymakers would probably need to enact spending cuts or tax increases more drastic and painful than those that would have been necessary had the adjustments come sooner.”

Responding to the report, Congressional candidate Terri McCormick says, “There is no probably about it; the politicians in Washington are constitutionally obligated to cut spending. Unfortunately, many of them – including my opponent Steve Kagen – do not seem to take their Oath of Office seriously. That’s why Congressman Kagen voted for Cap and Tax and the Democratic Congressional health care tax-increase plan that was signed by President Obama earlier this year.”

Terri McCormick has offered several policy solutions that will result in meaningful tax reform and that will cut spending and waste, including auditing the Federal Reserve and other federal agencies.

“Tax increases in the midst of an economic crisis are not the solution that northeast Wisconsin voters are looking for. Our district desperately needs job creation and economic innovation, which will not occur through empowering government to be all things to all people. That’s why I will vote to eliminate wasteful spending, rein in the debt, and be a responsible steward of taxpayers’ hard earned money,” concluded McCormick.

Former State Representative Terri McCormick is a teacher, small business owner, published author and constitutional conservative.
