Defending the United States Constitution and Personal Liberty

Terri McCormick Constitution

Every generation of Terri McCormick’s family has served in the U.S. military since the Civil War. The freedoms all Americans cherish came with a price for many servicemen and women.  Honoring the sacrifice of ‘freedom’s call’ must not be taken lightly or be forgotten. The United States Constitution is our original and true Contract with America.

As our national debt continues to skyrocket, Terri McCormick is deeply concerned about the impact some domestic policies are having on civil liberties guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. As a former member of the Wisconsin Assembly, Terri swore an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

As a strict constitutionalist, Terri has reviewed many pieces of legislation that have passed through the halls of Congress without so much as a debate or without Members of Congress reading the bills.

Terri plans to read the bills before voting on them.

In 2001, the USA PATRIOT Act was passed, which allows for the private communications of law-abiding U.S. citizens to be intercepted by the government – without so much as a court order. This law empowers the FBI to search library, bank, and business records without your knowledge. This law violates the Fourth Amendment, which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures.

In 2005, Congress passed the REAL ID Act, which creates a de facto national identification card for every man and woman in the country. This law not only violates the Tenth Amendment (and leads to violations of the First Amendment right to peaceably assemble), but it also collects Americans’ private information for government databases and leaves us all more vulnerable to identity thieves.

Both Republicans and Democrats went along with these anti-liberty measures that did not distinguish American citizens from Enemy Combatants in the eyes of the law. Our lawmakers must ask, “Have these measures worked? Have they been effective?”

In Congress, Terri McCormick will serve as an outspoken voice for protecting the rights of all law-abiding Americans. As our troops continue to fight the War on Terror abroad, we must be concerned about the Rights and Responsibilities that our military soldiers have sworn to protect and defend, our Constitution, and our freedoms here at home.
